About Susan M. Carr

Between 1978 and 1996, Susan Carr developed a well-known vocal studio for singers in Seattle. Susan taught in New York for one year, in 1997, and then in Los Angeles for the following seven years. Susan returned to Seattle in 2004 and continues to teach in both Seattle and Los Angeles. Many agents and record labels have sent their talent to Susan because she is a superior technical teacher. She prepares her students for recording, touring, and presentation of their own original material. Her teaching emphasizes strong technique for all performers. Susan works to give each one the power, range, tone, and endurance necessary to complement the development of a unique and personal voice. Her training includes a BFA in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy and a two-year teaching assistantship under Dr. Marietta Coyle, the teacher of New York Metropolitan opera singer, Thomas Hampson. Susan received further advanced vocal training from Maryanne Weltmann of the University of Washington. Susan is a longtime member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.

While living is Seattle, Susan received an additional BFA, in Theatre, from Cornish's Professional Actors Training Program, and performed on major Equity stages of Seattle.

Susan also assembled the talents of several world-class jazz musicians to form Susan Carr's Ensemble and record her CD, Passion of Brazil. Susan Carr's Ensemble received numerous accolades for their stunning performances, including Seattle's Bumbershoot Arts Festival. Many of Susan's students have attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
